Why LEDs Win in Texas
An older landscape system with 20-watt halogen lamps uses four to five times the power of a modern LED system producing similar light. Halogen lamps also burn out every few thousand hours, run hot, and drift in color as they age. LEDs typically last 30,000–50,000 hours and keep a consistent color.
The calculator multiplies fixtures × watts × hours × 365 ÷ 1,000 to get yearly kilowatt-hours, then applies your electricity rate. Texas residential rates commonly run around 14–16¢ per kWh, but check your own bill — retail plans vary widely.
Retrofit or Replace?
If your fixtures are solid brass or copper in good condition, swapping halogen lamps for quality LED lamps is often the fastest payback. If fixtures are corroded, cheap aluminum or poorly placed, a redesign with integrated LED fixtures usually delivers better light and a longer life. Our maintenance & repair team handles both, and the LED vs halogen guide explains the trade-offs in detail.
FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
How much can LED landscape lighting save?
Typically 75–80% of the energy used by halogen, plus the cost of frequent lamp replacements.
Can I put LED bulbs in my old fixtures?
Often, yes — if the fixtures are in good condition and the transformer works well with LED loads. Some older transformers need replacing.
How much does it cost to run LED landscape lighting?
A whole-property LED system usually costs around $10–$25 a month, depending on size, hours and your rate.
